Mediation Advances in Traverse Area
Since mediation was introduced into the Traverse area in the mid-1990’s its popularity as an effective way of resolving disputes has only grown. In those early days, the Conflict Resolution Service (now the Community Reconciliation Service) provided the only source of trained mediators in our area. Now nearly 75 individuals have been approved as qualified to mediate Circuit Court referred disputes. These individuals have invested time and money in obtaining the minimum 40 hours of civil and/or domestic relations mediation training and form an experienced cadre of local mediators.
Mediations have primarily been conducted in law office conference rooms, at the Courthouse or in rented space at local hotel conference facilities. Now attorneys Marian Kromkowski and Robert Guyot have pooled their energies and resources and have opened Traverse Mediation Associates.
As their mediation practices expanded and they continued to advance their mediation training, Marian and Bob talked about the need for a private, comfortable and accessible mediation center in the Traverse area: a place away from court, law offices and travelers where disputes could be discussed and resolved.
Traverse Mediation Associates is located directly east of
Garfield and Front at
1120 E. Front St.
The facility has one large conference room and two smaller conference rooms for separate sessions, plus a comfortable reception area. It can accommodate two-party through multi-party mediations. An internet connection is available as well as copy and fax machine service.
The Traverse Mediation Associates complex can be rented by other mediators and by organizations looking for meeting space.
Bob and Marian trust that this endeavor will benefit the continued development of alternative dispute resolution in our area.
